Friendly Island cleaning campaign - Clean Island: Thanks from the President and his majority

President Daniel Gibbs and the members of his majority would like to warmly thank all the people who gave their time and who invested in the clean island operation "Friendly Island - Clean Island", organized by the Collectivity of Saint Martin , the first two weekends of July.

This great collective cleaning promised by Team Gibbs 2017 had a double objective. On the one hand clean the island all together and rid the public domain and private properties of waste and bulky that can become projectiles in the event of a hurricane, and on the other hand to give our tourist island a clean and welcoming image.

Community services surveyed all areas of the island during the four mornings of cleaning, and were able to collect 74 tonnes of miscellaneous waste, 31 tonnes the first weekend, and 43 tonnes the second. 600 flyers were hand-delivered to residents for the free removal of vehicle carcasses.

The President thanked all the people who were involved in this “clean island” system, the citizens who spontaneously joined the teams in the field, the companies and associations who responded favorably to the call of the community.

A big thank you to the voluntary associations: Dream of Trail, SXM Trail, EME, Center symphorien d insertion, AIDSM, ACED, SXM Horizon, Hope and Music Foundation, Sandy-Ground on the Move, AZ, Terres-Basses association, Jeunesse Soualiga.

Thank you to the young people from Vacation Jobs in the community, to the members of the Junior Territorial Council, to the Neighborhood Councils, to the CTOS, to UD Jeunes, to the agents of the community and its satellites who took part in the cleaning, to the agents of the Event service, agents of the Youth service, agents of the Roads and Buildings department.

Special thanks to the technicians of the Department of Environment and Living Environment, led by Anne-Marie Bouillé, who greatly contributed, and to all those who participated in this operation.
