At the start of this new year 2018, the "Health Bus for All" continues to criss-cross all the districts of the French part until Wednesday, January 31.
In order to facilitate the medical care of populations following the passage of Irma, the Red Cross and the association Les Liaisons Dangereuses have pooled their resources (material and human) and set up a bus. This vehicle moves through all neighborhoods on a schedule. On board, a team made up of a doctor, a nurse and a social worker.
Their mission is to meet the population and direct them to health professionals according to their illnesses and ailments. “We are seeing a real break in treatment and it is important, essential that Saint-Martinois reconnect to their health”, conceives the nurse. For example, some with diabetes have indeed stopped taking their medication because they were out of it.
Screenings for diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure and HIV are offered on the bus and depending on the results, people are referred to doctors. However, no prescription is made.
A representative of the General Social Security Fund is also present on certain days to provide information on access to rights and social action benefits. _AF
