BASKETBALL: A selection of Saint-Martin goes to Guadeloupe

Since Thursday, August 13, and for a period of 4 days, a selection of young players from Saint-Martin is participating in a tournament with the Etoile de l'Ouest and Luciole de Pointe-Noire teams.

The Speedy Plus association, chaired by Calvin Bryan, has set up an activity called “Holi Basket-ball Tour”, within the framework of the City Contract with the Collectivity and the Prefecture of the Northern Islands.

The animation was initiated by Alan Nérome, who was responsible in Saint-Martin for the contract-holiday animations organized last year. "He noticed that there were young people who had qualities, but they lacked supervision", estimates Calvin Bryan, "Speedy Plus followed him, and we set up this animation".

As the young players come mainly from Marigot and Quartier d'Orléans, training sessions took place in both sectors. A selection of 11 players has been defined and will leave on August 13 to meet the teams from Guadeloupe. As a former coach of Etoile de l'Ouest and La Luciole de Pointe-Noire, Bryan Calvin organized this trip. The latter brought in a renowned coach, Patrick Seremes, "whom I trained and supervised, and who is a former professional at the national level". This coach came to teach young players techniques before their trip to Guadeloupe. Locally, Alan Nérome and Dédé Michelet, from Quartier d'Orléans and former player of the Star of the West, supervise the Saint-Martin players.

The person in charge of Speedy Plus specifies that the persons in charge of the Prefecture and of the Collectivity joined the project and participated in the financing of the project, "which, unfortunately, is not enough for the displacement, but the young people expressed the desire to leave in Guadeloupe ”.
