Association “Economic and Citizen Action”: “We must join forces”

0

Yann Lecam is the president of the new association “Economic and citizen action”, created at the start of the school year. Last week, he organized an information meeting at the CCISM to publicize his organization concerned with defending the interests of merchants and restaurateurs in Marigot.

Before creating “Economic and Citizen Action”, were you already involved at the local level?

Yes, with other professionals from the royal marina, we have been active since the start of 2014. At the time, we had created an entity that represented traders and restaurateurs in the sector. We often gathered together on our initiative to settle a lot of issues that were not necessarily the same as the old association of merchants in Marigot.

Why did you then create an association?

Over time, we found that we had to set up an official structure to have weight with the Community or the prefecture to move our files forward. At the same time, we got closer to the Marigot merchants' association, but in the meantime, it dissolved. It's a shame because she organized a lot of events. So we set up our own association to find solutions.

You organized a meeting at the CCISM on Wednesday evening, for what purpose?

Our objective was to officially present the association and to make merchants and restaurateurs understand that it is very important to unite to obtain concrete results. We won't get anywhere alone in his corner. About twenty traders came to this meeting. We had some interesting debates among others on insecurity in Marigot. On the whole, the traders feel helpless, neglected by the local authorities: no one listens to their complaints. Via a form, they were asked three questions: "What difficulties did you encounter in the exercise of your activity?" ; "In your opinion, what should be improved to attract and retain customers" and "what should be the priority actions of the association for the tourist season 2015-2016?". We are all motivated to bring Marigot back to life.
