School activities: An inter-school relay race to perpetuate history…

Students from the Aline Hanson elementary school located at Sandy-Ground and their counterparts from the Dutch side take part today in an inter-school relay race to commemorate the sharing of the island in the manner of the historical legend of 1648. 

The start will be given from the Terres Basses border at 8:30 am. The first riders of each team start back to back in opposite directions.

The arrival remains undetermined: it will be the meeting point of the last groups of runners as it was the case in 1648 according to the legend of the sharing of the island.

The relay witness will be the flag of the other nation.

The French will run with the Dutch flag as a witness while the Dutch with the French flag. And once they meet, they will exchange flags to mark their brotherhood.

Itineraries:

• French side: Lowlands, Nettle Bay, Sandy Ground, Marigot, Low Town, Bellevue border

• Dutch side: Mullet bay, Maho, Airport road, Causeway bridge, Colebay border

This event is both historical, sporting and educational.

After the race, a sharing ceremony will be held at the MJC of Sandy-Ground in the presence of all the students and the personalities invited for this great event. _AF
