With the passage of Irma, agriculture was very affected in Saint-Martin. Seventeen claims were registered by the Interprofessional Consular Chamber (CCISM) in September. This represents 1,98 million euros in damage and some 250 euros in operating losses.
Just under 30% of the herd has been lost. "We count 7 losses on the 580 bovines, 180 on the 2 000 goats and 2 500 on the 10 000 poultry", specifies Dorvan Cocks, vice-president of the CCISM in charge of agriculture. The hives did not resist. "We see the bees coming back but we no longer have any working tools," he adds.
