Economic activity: The trend would be for recovery

0

Business start-ups seem to be recovering, according to the Initiative Saint-Martin Active platform, which is welcoming more and more people who come to get information. While usually the commission, which examines grant application files, works on around three files, at the next commission meeting, nine files will be studied.

According to Sabrina Rivère, director of Initiative Saint-Martin Active, "we see that there is a craze for economic recovery", and it would seem that the institutional, public and private partners of the platform are remobilized. "We feel that the banks, too, are committed to following the project leaders", while in 2018, "they were a little more hesitant to invest in professional projects".

Currently, tourism and catering are on the rise, “with 60% in applications, but not that there is also trade, crafts ... We feel that all sectors of activity are in moving a lot (…) There is a bit of construction, but we feel that it is starting to run out of steam ”. Initiative Saint-Martin Active receives thirty to forty calls per month “and since September, things have started up really well”.

Among the applicants, the platform estimates that there are approximately 20% of new arrivals, whereas one of the rules of Initiative Saint-Martin Activé is to help people who have, at least, one year of establishment on the island, "but I admit that from Irma, we are deviating from the rule, but not systematically, because we need people to come back to the island". _RM
