In the Dutch part, six traffic accidents involving a two-wheeler were recorded in one week.
Spectacular images of the motorbike in flames on the road made the rounds on social media shortly after the crash that claimed the life of a 37-year-old man.
The young man reportedly succumbed to his injuries shortly after arriving at Sint Maarten Medical Center (SMMC). This fatal accident is being investigated by the Sint Maarten police. The driver of the vehicle involved in the accident was summoned by the police for questioning as a suspect in the case. The passenger, who was in the vehicle at the time of the crash, was also called for questioning as a witness. Preliminary inquiries have indicated that the driver of a white SUV heading in the direction of St. Peters has turn left. The motorcyclist arriving in the opposite direction would then have violently collided with the SUV. This fatal accident is the sixth in a week involving a motorcycle. None of the five bikers were seriously injured in these previous accidents.
