College reform: teachers called to strike

0

Teachers have been invited by several unions to strike today against college reform. The majority of French people believe that the planned demonstrations are "justified".

From the teaching of ancient languages, to history programs, to the autonomy of schools, the reasons for teachers' discontent are multiple. In Saint-Martin, the National Secondary School Teachers Union (SNES-FSU) called on teachers to follow this movement against the reform of the college. 60% of French people support this strike, according to a poll by Odoxa published yesterday. Education Minister Najat Vallaud-Belkacem has however been clear: this reform, approved by the Higher Education Council last month, will come into force next September. “The national and international assessments are final: the college aggravates the academic difficulty, particularly in the fundamental disciplines. Without jeopardizing the competence and commitment of teachers, it is now clear that the college crystallizes the shortcomings of our education system, "said the minister on the government website.
