The State, the managing authority of the European Regional Economic Development Fund (ERDF), is launching, in addition to exceptional assistance, € 2 per room from the Territorial Community of Saint-Martin, for the renovation and rehabilitation of accommodation classified as " Guest Houses ”, a call for projects on the creation, renovation and reconstruction for this classified and unclassified accommodation category.
Guest Houses are accommodations of less than ten rooms intended for passing customers who stay for a few days on the basis of a fixed price rental for the day, week or month and who do not choose to live there. and offering at least a breakfast service each morning.
Saint-Martin had, before Cyclone Irma, 17 Guest Houses, 12 of which were labeled following the adoption of a benchmark for classification of Guest Houses launched by the Collectivity of Saint-Martin in 2014.
Following the passage of cyclone Irma in September 2017, the tourist accommodation park in Saint-Martin experienced significant material damage, no longer allowing normal reception for customers and maintaining employment, including Guest Houses.
Post Irma there were 4 open structures for around thirty beds. In November 2018, there were 12 open establishments, including 7 classified establishments and 5 unclassified establishments. A total of 53 rooms.
