Zika: WHO emergency committee meeting

0

An emergency committee of the World Health Organization (WHO) is meeting today in Geneva to decide whether the Zika epidemic constitutes "a public health emergency of international concern". In Saint-Martin - in accordance with the last epidemiological point of the National Institute for Sanitary Surveillance (INVS) - no new case has been detected, announced the prefecture. Since the start of surveillance, only one person has been biologically infected with the virus. A “Zika” management committee was organized last Wednesday at the prefecture.

Here is a reminder from the prefecture concerning the prevention and protection instructions:

• Fight against mosquitoes: destroy the larvae as well as the potential breeding sites for mosquitoes around and in the habitat: by checking your tanks, removing the saucers under the flower pots and emptying at least once a week all containers containing standing water (vases, litter, gutters, etc.);

• Protect yourself from mosquito bites (essential for pregnant women and sick people) by wearing long clothes, using skin repellents (respecting the precautions for use, especially in children and pregnant women) as well that crib mosquito nets in newborns and infants;

• Protect your home (mosquito nets, electric diffusers, twists, etc.).
