Violence against women: two weeks of awareness-raising

0

The Soroptimist Club, which is one of the island's associations which fight against violence against women, launched its awareness campaign yesterday in Saint-Martin.

Members will therefore try to touch people's minds through several messages - billboards or placards - broadcast in public places on the territory until December 10. The association "thus hopes to participate in raising awareness and silencing the silence". And reminds on the occasion of the International Day against Violence Against Women that “35% of women in the world have been victims of physical and / or sexual violence (…). In overseas territories in general and in Saint-Martin in particular, the figures are even more alarming in areas particularly affected by unemployment and situations of extreme precariousness ”.

Break the law of silence

"In Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthélemy, as in mainland France, incidents of violence against women are regularly reported to the gendarmerie services, but there are still too large a proportion of victims who prefer to remain silent and suffer the inconceivable ", indicates the prefecture, via its Facebook page, stressing that the 3919 is a free and anonymous telephone service. Many infos are also available on this subject on the following site: www.stop-violences-femmes.gouv.fr.
