The passage of hurricanes Irma and Maria in the Caribbean did not interrupt the growth of Guadeloupe-Pôle Caraïbes airport in September 2017. Traffic recorded an increase of 6,0% compared to September 2016 with 124 passengers welcomed (transit included).

In detail, the Caribbean zone increased overall by 1,17% but several destinations posted marked declines, linked to these climatic events: Dominica (-89.03%), Saint Martin-Juliana (-70.34%) or San Juan de Puerto Rico (-30.18%).

The North America zone also recorded growth of + 13,96% compared to September 2016, notably thanks to the extension of the summer flight program to Canada.

The Pointe-à-Pitre / Paris axis, for its part, saw an increase in traffic (excluding transit) of 17,32% for departures, a sharp increase of + 16.41%, linked to the flow of passengers residing in St Barth and Saint-Martin returning to mainland France.

Conversely, the Martinique / Guyane network posted negative results, with traffic down 9.74% penalized by the Fort-de-France axis (-12.76%), consequence of the interruption of traffic for 3 days.

The airport also noted “rather exceptional” growth in September for the freight segment (+ 90.79%) which mainly represents import traffic (+ 106.83%) intended for regions affected by hurricanes, with in particular 3 stopovers by Antonov 124.
