A study on the profile of tourists transiting from the airport to Juliana was carried out last summer by the establishment. It concerned a sample of 1790 visitors, including as many women as men.

On a scale of 5 (5 being the highest), tourists rate the cleanliness of the island at 3,4 and less than 3 the quality of the excursions offered. A request was also made to compare the French part with the Dutch part on certain points; overall the tourists gave a slightly more satisfactory rating to the Dutch side: 4,3 against 4 for the beaches, 4,2 against 4 for the beaches, 3,5 against 3,2 for the prices, 3,8 against 3,5 for security, 4,1 against 3,8 for user-friendliness of residents and 4,1 against 3,5 for accommodation; these last two points get the biggest gap between the two sides. The only area where the French side gets a higher rating is road signage: 3,3 versus 3,2.

For 76% of the people questioned, their stay on the island met their expectations and for 17% it exceeded them. 58% of tourists would “definitely” recommend the Sint Maarten / Saint-Martin destination, 29% “probably”. 62% “definitely” intend to return and 27% probably.

The average spending per person per day is $ 100 for Caribbean visitors, $ 75 for Americans, $ 63 for Canadians, $ 46 for Europeans and $ 36 for South Americans; knowing that the accommodation item represents the biggest expense. Americans and Europeans said they spent about 21% of their spending on restaurants.
