Suspension of hunting until the end of the season for all species in Saint-Martin

The Departmental Hunting and Wildlife Commission, which brings together hunters, environmental protection associations, public services and establishments of the State, qualified personalities in ornithological matters, met on October 25 at the Prefecture.

The purpose of this meeting was to formulate hunting management proposals for the end of the hunting season, taking into account the impacts caused by cyclones IRMA and MARIA on wildlife and their habitats. The commission ruled in favor of banning the hunting of all species on Saint Martin. On this basis, draft orders that would apply until the end of the 2017 hunting season are now subject to public consultation, until November 16. These orders can be viewed on the websites of the prefecture (www.guadeloupe.pref.gouv.fr) and the Department of the Environment, Planning and Housing (www.guadeloupe.developpement-durable.gouv.fr ). Indeed, no measure can be taken over such a long period without this consultation. However, it appeared to the Departmental Commission that it was important to protect endangered animal species through short-term orders, which are taken by the prefect and can be renewed every 10 days. Those currently in force respect the position of the commission regarding the need to maintain temporary suspension measures for hunting (all species in Saint-Martin; all species except water game in Guadeloupe) will be caught until 'to November 16.
