St. Maarten: investigation into possible human trafficking

0

"The Sint Maarten police anti-trafficking and smuggling unit is currently carrying out a criminal investigation under the direction of the prosecutor into possible trafficking in human beings, which has affected three Filipino women" informed the Sint Maarten public prosecutor's office on August 3.

They worked for two different employers as housekeepers, and the object of the investigation is to determine whether there was exploitation. When this situation was reported two weeks ago, the women indicated that they wanted to return to the Philippines.

The police, after consulting with the prosecutor, negotiated with the employers and the three Philippines. If, at first, they had accepted what the employers offered them, they finally refused what had been agreed and did not wish to return to their country.

"The prosecutor and the police defend the protection of human rights" recalls the prosecution which specifies that the criminal investigation has not yet been completed, which is why no other details can be revealed for the moment.
