SPORT: Disabled sports day this Saturday at the Vanterpool stadium

Several associations on the island have come together to organize sporting events adapted to children with disabilities. The first edition called "Handynamic" will take place this Saturday, March 19 from 9 a.m. to 14 p.m. at the Halle des Sports in Marigot, made available free of charge by the Collectivity.

This new project funded by the Regional Academic Delegation for Youth, Engagement and Sports (DRAJES), Motorworld, the Prefecture of Saint-Barthélemy and Saint-Martin and the Sports Union for Primary Education (USEP) , was presented to the press last Tuesday. Supported by the Saint Martin Football League (LFSM), this inter-associative initiative aims to promote children with reduced mobility through a day of initiation to several sports practices. Given the cruel lack of suitable structures and actions facilitating interactions between able-bodied people and people with reduced mobility, in particular children, Aristide Conner, president of the LFSM, did not hide his enthusiasm in the face of journalists. The LFSM technical advisor, Gilles Petit, then took the floor to describe the program for this "Handynamic" day on which several associations have joined: discovery workshops will be organized in the hall of the stadium where 50 children (and/ or adults) with disabilities can try their hand at futsal (LFSM), basketball (Backayard), boxing (ABC intersports), lawn surfing (Windy Reef) and seamanship/wing (Wind Adventures). A zip line will even be installed especially for the occasion.

The 50 participants were invited to participate in “Handynamic” through the Tournesol and Cobraced associations, SESSAD (Special Education and Home Care Service) and USEP. Specialized educators will be present for children who require special supervision. The presence of parents is requested for the others. The event is open to all able-bodied children or children with reduced mobility who have not yet been registered via one of the four structures. A snack will be distributed around 11 a.m. as well as a bag of goodies and a T-shirt, which will make a nice souvenir while waiting for the next edition focused on water sports which will be carried by the Métimer association next May. _VX
