The protest march against the pension reform organized by the UNSA and the FSU last Tuesday started from the Galisbay car park to the Prefecture where the union representatives met with Vincent Berton, Delegate Prefect of the Northern Islands.

On this day of third action against the pension reform carried out by the government of Elizabeth Borne which postpones retirement to 64 from 2023 and which requires 43 cumulative years of contributions from 2027, the representatives of the he National Union of Autonomous Trade Unions (UNSA) and the Unitary Trade Union Federation (FSU) were joined by the CGTG union of Semsamar as well as a group made up of around fifty opponents of the pension reform which mobilizes thousands of people in metropolitan France.

The meeting point for this symbolic march was given this Tuesday, February 7 at 9 a.m. in the Galisbay car park. The procession then headed towards Marigot along the seafront, escorted by the territorial police and the gendarmerie.

Before joining the prefecture, the demonstrators made several stops, including one at Rue de la République, chanting their dissatisfaction with this bill and the French government's way of proceeding, namely the application of article 47.1 . Since the said reform is part of a Social Security financing bill (PLFSS), the executive has the freedom to apply this article, which gives the government the possibility of shortening the duration of the debates: 20 days for the National Assembly, 15 days for the Senate and 15 other days for an agreement to be reached by the joint committee, with an overall time from the tabling of the text until the final adoption which can hardly exceed 50 days. If an agreement does not see the light of day, the government can pass the reform by ordinances. The countdown has begun, the deadline for the National Assembly is February 17 at midnight.

UNSA representatives expressed their desire to meet Senator Annick Pétrus with Vincent Berton, delegate prefect of the Northern Islands, who received them in his offices after an exchange between the delegation and Julien Marie, chief of staff. In addition to the pension reform, during this round table with the prefect, several themes were exposed by the trade unionists such as the exorbitant price of plane tickets and the non-respect of the quality-price shield. The representatives of the UNSA and the FSU also returned to their meeting of January 31 with the deputy Frantz Gumbs who fully felt the tension caused by the 43 years of contributions, incomplete careers and the conditions for the redemption of unpaid quarters. On this strike day of February 7, several schools were closed. With 43,4% of strikers in Saint-Martin in the first degree (0% in Saint-Barthélemy) and 16,1% in Saint-Martin in the second degree (4,3% in Saint-Barthélemy), trade unionists have the conviction that awareness has been raised, that the protest movement is gaining momentum, with a good response from the population, indicated Hubert Fleming, secretary general of the UNSA. _VX
