A virtual tour of the Sint Maarten General Hospital (SMGH), currently under construction, was made available to the public this week by the Sint Maarten Medical Center (SMMC).

“The virtual tour takes you around the whole new building and its surroundings. It gives you a very good impression of what a patient room will look like, the design of operating rooms and much more, ”said SMGH project manager Erika van der Horst on Tuesday.

The new hospital has added several medical specialties to its list of care over the past few years aimed at providing "quality care close to home" and simultaneously becoming a leading medical institution in the Caribbean.

According to the press release, the SMGH  will be a state-of-the-art hospital, resistant to major hurricanes of up to 320km / h and will span approximately 16500 square meters. Its capacity will be 110 inpatient beds - eight special care beds (intensive care unit / medium care unit / intensive care unit), 48 medical surgery beds, 38 mother / child beds and 16 nursing care beds. day.

SMGH will also have four operating theaters and 30 dialysis chairs. The new hospital will be self-sufficient for up to seven days. A helipad and a wastewater treatment plant are also planned.

The SMGH should be operational by the end of 2023.
