You could not miss them: for weeks, colored flags - announcing the elections in Sint Maarten - have been planted along the roads. The big day has finally arrived.
The population is invited to the polls today to elect members of Parliament. In these early elections, 126 candidates from nine parties are competing. The stakes are high: only fifteen members will be elected.
Here are the different parties and their color: One St. Maarten People Party (purple); The United People's Party (green); St. Maarten Development Movement (gray); United St. Maarten Party (blue); Sint Maarten Christian Party (brown); Helping Our People Excel Association (pink); People's Progressive Alliance Association (orange); The Democratic Party of Sint Maarten (red) and The National Alliance (white). _EH
