Sint Maarten: Green light for casinos to stay open until 2 a.m.

0

The government of Sint Maarten issued an executive order last week allowing casinos to remain open until 2 a.m. instead of midnight previously.

The announcement was made last Monday by the Minister of Tourism, Economic Affairs, Transport and Telecommunications (TEATT) Ludmila de Weever. The change came into effect on November 1.

Asked about the rationale for this decision, Prime Minister Sylvia Jacobs said that the regulations governing casinos are different from those of other businesses (bars, restaurants).

If the extension of the opening hours of other companies requires changes in ministerial regulations, this is not the case for casinos.

In the meantime, all nightlife businesses other than casinos are required to continue to close at midnight. Those who do not respect this measure will have their license revoked immediately.

The message has the merit of being clear! _AF
