Sint Maarten (Coronavirus): One more victim succumbs to COVID-19, positive cases increase to 71 in the Dutch part

Sint Maarten recorded its eleventh death last Monday since the start of the epidemic at the Sint Maarten Medical Center (SMMC).

This latest death brings the total number of COVID-11 deaths on the Dutch side to 19. The deceased had fought a long battle against the virus in the intensive care unit (ICU) of the SMMC.

Meanwhile, the number of positive COVID-19 cases has risen to 71, and the number of people who have recovered so far is now 22, while the number of active cases has dropped to 38.

Prime Minister Sylveria Jacobs said that based on the latest available data, updated by Collective Prevention Services (CPS) epidemiologist Eva Lista-de Weever, the figures for April 21, at 17 p.m. are the following:

130 people in self-quarantine; 95 in self-isolation; 7 hospitalized at the SMMC and 2 in the mobile medical pavilion; 258 tested; 71 positive; 141 negative; 45 waiting; 1 inconclusive and a total of 11 people died. In total, 22 people have recovered and there are now 38 active cases. The number of positive cases includes 49 men and 21 femmes.

Sylveria Jacobs also specified that on April 21, the SMMC had admitted nine suspected or confirmed patients with COVID-19. Of the 9 patients, 2 are in intensive care and 2 are in level of care 3/4 and in the mobile medical ward.
