Sint Maarten / Juliana Airport: a step forward in its reconstruction?

Reconstruction of Juliana Airport is expected to accelerate by the end of the year. On March 23, the Project Mangement Unit was delighted to have received several quotes between  40 and 99 million US dollars.

Four international companies have indeed applied for the airport terminal reconstruction contract: (CCECC (Singapore), Ballast Nedam International (Netherlands), Cotton Global Solutions (United States) and Aecon Airport Construction Ltd (Canada). ).

According to the project schedule, all that remains is to finish evaluating the bids and then awarding the contract, by July 2021. The start of the reconstruction project for the airport terminal should then begin during the next month. third quarter 2021, four years after its destruction by Hurricane Irma.

Today, only 30% of the terminal is used in the temporary “Package One” area, the roof of which has been restored. The Sint Maarten Airport Terminal Reconstruction Project (USD 129 million) is funded by the Sint Maarten Trust Fund (USD 72 million), the European Investment Bank (USD 50 million) and the Princess Juliana International Airport Operating Company (PJAIE) (US $ 7 million).

The objective is to restore a service and  a reception capacity equivalent to those before Irma. But also to improve the building's resistance to hurricanes.
