Health: The hospital expansion project materializes

The Louis Constant Fleming Hospital Center plays a pivotal role in providing care for the population of the Northern Islands. A reflection undertaken during the summer of 2021 led to the submission of a file allowing it to expand and consolidate its response to health needs.

The main objectives are to go from 92 to 106 beds and places, i.e. a 15% increase in its reception capacity, to consider the creation of critical care beds on the Island in order to avoid a good number of EVASAN and to bring together within its walls the entire medicotechnical imaging and medical biology platform, in partnership with the island's liberal actors. It is therefore a substantial increase in the quality of the care offered to the inhabitants of Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthélemy.

To carry out the first phase of this project, essentially focused on outpatient services, the establishment requested European funds with the support of the Prefecture and the Collectivity and it is, supported by these institutions, that the establishment obtained at the end of last year an agreement in principle and two financing agreements from the european union.

On Tuesday, June 21, Mrs. Galloni, architect, whose firm DPLG, appointed by call for tenders to draw up the plans for the future building, presented to the hospital staff the sketch of the project as decided upon following a consultation started in March 2022.

The building permit has been filed, all eyes are on the next step, namely a start of work by the end of the year after obtaining the building permit.

Without delay and from the next school year, the study phase of the 2nd tranche financed by the Ségur de la Santé with the support of the ARS, will be launched.
