Sam should go hurricane in the next 24 hours

Tropical Storm Sam was located some 2 km east of Barbados by late morning. It is moving west at a speed of 800 km / h.

“This phenomenon evolves in warm waters, in a humid atmosphere and with low wind shear. Consequently, it should continue to strengthen gradually until the stage of hurricane then major hurricane by Sunday ”, indicates Météo France. Indeed, the national hurricane center predicts that Sam will move to the cyclone stage today and become a major hurricane (at least category 3) overnight from Saturday to Sunday.

“As it approaches the West Indian arc, the cyclone should take an increasingly north-westerly trajectory and approach the West Indies between Tuesday and Thursday. At this time, it is not excluded a trajectory more southerly than that indicated so far ”, agrees Météo France.

Sam is still too far away for the NHC to specify its trajectory cone at the level of the Caribbean. However, the meteo-tropical site publishes a map of regularly revised trajectory estimates, and most of them pass the phenomenon to the north-east of the Caribbean arc.
