Hurricane season 2017: delivery of the Tirex study

0

Last Friday, November 6, a meeting was held in the prefecture in the presence of the Director of Services of the Cabinet of the Prefecture, the National Gendarmerie, representatives of the DEAL (Department of the Environment, Planning and Housing) and speakers from the University Paul Valéry Montpellier 3, represented by Frédéric LEONE.

The purpose of this meeting was to provide information from the TIREX study (Transfer of learning from scientific experience feedback) for the 2017 hurricane season.

In the Northern Islands, the hurricane references listed until then remained class 3 events (Luis in St Martin). In September 2017, Cyclone IRMA, made worse by two other cyclones, put a superlative disaster within the realm of possibility, forcing thinking about how to rebuild more resilient rather than rebuild as quickly as possible with the specter of other events to come. come. These three successive cyclonic events represent both a learning opportunity through integrated and multidisciplinary feedback methods (RETEX) in particularly vulnerable territories, and also a rare opportunity to apply or invent methods of transferring this learning to the populations and other players in prevention, crisis management and territorial reconstruction.

Information concerning this study is already available on the dedicated website which will soon be finalized:
