Yesterday was a time for contemplation in front of the war memorial in Marigot. In the garden of the Hôtel de la Collectivité, a tribute was paid to the victims of the terrorist attacks in Paris at noon. To denounce these acts of violence, a minute of silence was observed on the island, in France and in other countries around the world.
The president of the Aline Hanson community, the elected officials and the prefect Anne Laubies were well surrounded for this tribute which brought together around 150 people, according to the COM. Prime Minister of Sint Maarten Marcel Gumbs, Governor of Sint Maarten Eugène Holiday, Speaker of Parliament Sarah Wescot-Williams and several government officials were present to join in the national mourning, alongside many personalities from the political and socioeconomic world , the police and the population. Everyone was able to express their solidarity by placing a flower or lighting a candle in front of the war memorial. At the end of the commemoration, Tamilla Chance, a pupil of the Soualiga college, sang the Marseillaise. The COM announced that after this tribute, President Aline Hanson invited the Prefect, Governor Eugène Holiday, Prime Minister Marcel Gumbs and Minister of Justice Denis Richardson to his office on territorial security.
