Relaunch of slaughterhouse activity: breeders and meat dealers are invited to use this structure

0

The slaughterhouse is the property of the Collectivity of Saint-Martin, which has worked to bring it up to standard in order to allow local breeders and retailers to benefit from a regulatory structure for the slaughter of livestock.

After inspection, the competent authorities issued a health approval on October 5, 2022, allowing the slaughterhouse to operate again. The Industrial and Commercial Public Establishment (EPIC) EGEA, which currently manages the structure, wishes to make improvements and diversify its activities. At present, slaughtered animals are production animals (production of foodstuffs).

The slaughterhouse apour plan to extend its activity to other species, in particular with the installation of a meat cutting and maturing workshop. A project management mission is currently underway to study and develop these objectives.

Valérie Fonrose, president of the public establishment of management and exploitation (EGEA), therefore worked with all the institutional and professional partners, in order to restore its place to the slaughterhouse of Saint-Martin. First of all so that breeders can benefit from a professional tool, but also so that a legal framework is established on the territory in terms of slaughter, in compliance with animal welfare and health standards. The Community therefore invites animal keepers, breeders, groups of breeders, cooperatives and butchers to use this regulatory structure for the slaughter of cattle and goats from now on. The management of EGEA is at their disposal to assist them in planning their production.
