Regulations: Beware of lack of license plates!

In recent weeks, many vehicles registered abroad or with non-compliant plates have been circulating on the territory of the Collectivité. The territorial police would like to remind you of the rules applicable in this area.

Owners of vehicles whose license plates are not those of the Collectivity of Saint-Martin, are required within one month, to go to the gray card service of the Collectivity of Saint-Martin to regularize their situation.

All vehicles having been acquired abroad, whether or not circulating with a foreign license plate, also have a deadline, before which the registration formalities in Saint-Martin must have been completed.

Exceeding travel times is punishable by a 4th class fine of 135 euros in accordance with the article. R.322-5 of the Highway Code and the offender exposes himself to the immobilization of his vehicle by the police.

In addition, vehicles traveling without license plates (W) are liable to a 4th class fine of 135 euros and the immobilization of the vehicle under article R.317-8 of the Highway Code.

From December 2018, territorial police and gendarmerie checks will be carried out throughout the territory to ensure compliance with the highway code and in particular compliance with the regulations on license plates.

The persons concerned are invited to go from Monday to Friday from 08 a.m. to 14 p.m. at the registration service located Rue de la liberté - Bord de Mer - in Marigot.
