Following information communicated by the Territorial Unit of Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthélemy of the Direction of the Sea of Guadeloupe, and after a first aerial location, the brigade of the coast guard of Saint-Martin proceeded Friday 16 September 2016 to ship control operations off the island of Saint-Barthélemy. These controls gave rise to reports of illegal fishing against two vessels, the first flying the pleasure flag of Sint-Maarten and the second without flag. Minutes were drawn up against the captains of these two vessels and the fishery products and the equipment used for this purpose were apprehended by customs officials. In total, nearly 600 kg of king snappers (big eyes) and 7 longlines with several hundred hooks were seized by the Direction de la Mer de Guadeloupe. The stated objective of these controls is both to preserve the fishery resource and to protect the interests of French professional fishermen. _AF
