Hurricane Sam: Météo France forecasts an energy swell over the Northern Islands

0

Major Hurricane Sam was located about 700 km east of La Désirade yesterday morning and was moving northwest at 15 km / h. The strongest winds are near 215 km / h on average, with gusts of 260 km / h.

Despite a large cloud mass, it is a small hurricane, with hurricane-force winds that extend over a maximum radius of 65 km.

It should pass northeast of the West Indian arc between Wednesday and Thursday then move away. It is now very likely for it to remain far enough away that no territory is directly impacted.

Nevertheless it will cause some indirect effects on our islands during the next 3 or 4 days:

- Arrival of an energetic north-easterly swell with increasingly significant waves on the north and east coasts of the Northern Islands, and to a lesser extent in Guadeloupe and further south.

- Rains sometimes locally intense and stormy due to the diurnal development due to the weak winds, but also the rapid passage of the peripheral bands to the south of the hurricane.
