Boating: "We need specialized labor"

The first Sea Trades Forum was organized on Thursday at the CCISM. The morning was reserved for students who were very curious, as noted by the president of the association Métimer Bulent Gulay.

“Young people are interested in the sea and its industries. They ask many questions and are aware of the opportunities in this sector, ”explains Bulent Gulay de Métimer, partner of the event which is part of the 2nd meeting of the Business Forum. “These young people understand the importance of boating in our economy. Many boats arrive from outside and anchor in Saint-Martin. Mega yachts can even stay for months. We have to meet demand. At present, we need specialized labor in the French part. Work-study training is required. We are also working on these programs with Greta, ”he adds.

Through its various actions, Métimer makes young people aware of these professions, but also of the importance of preserving marine fauna. Last November, with the support of several partners, the association organized a discovery day in Tintamarre which was a real success. “Above all, you have to be passionate about the sea. Let us not forget that these are difficult jobs, but so rewarding,” he concludes.
