During the night of June 30 to July 1, 2013, three people had died following the capsizing of a boat between Saint-Martin and Anguilla. Three others were missing and twelve others rescued and treated at the Louis-Constant Fleming hospital. A judicial investigation had been opened to determine the circumstances of the tragedy; the gendarmes quickly put forward the idea of human trafficking.
