Combating social exclusion

The Samu social recently inaugurated its premises on the first floor of the Cadisco station, route de la Baie Orientale. The “tremendous work” of the volunteers was recalled by Ghislain Coëffard, regional director of Antilles CRF, and Pascal Courbet, manager at Saint-Martin CRF. Over 300 hours of volunteering were done in 2015. “The Red Cross has been present in Saint-Martin for twenty years. Patrols are organized from time to time (…) and the aim was to strengthen them ”, explained Mr. Coëffard, specifying that 17 patrols were scheduled in 2015. Two mediators were therefore hired to travel each week to Quartier d'Orléans, Marigot and Sandy Ground. Their mission: to meet users in the field, partners and report information objectively. “We are struck by the number of people whose rights are not up to date. And the situation is getting worse, ”said Courbet. This device was financed by the State services, the Health Agency (ARS) and the Collectivity. Witness of an emergency? Contact the Samu on 06 90 32 32 66 or 115.
