The “general public” masks, making it possible to limit the spread of coronavirus, can now be sold in pharmacies.

Pharmacies in France and overseas have been authorized to distribute these fabric masks, washable and reusable, since the publication of a decree from the Ministry of Health in the Official Journal on Saturday April 25. The decision was made on “Proposal of the National Council of Pharmacists dated April 15, 2020”, specifies the text.

This decree amends the Public Health Code, which fixes the list of goods that pharmacists are authorized to sell. From Monday, pharmacies will be able to order “Non-sanitary masks, manufactured according to an industrial process and meeting the applicable technical specifications”.

In addition, the Minister of Health indicated that the basic masks will cost from 2 to 5 euros. “But there will be some that can be used 50 times for example and those will perhaps cost between 10 and 15 euros”, specifies Philippe Besset. The president of the FSPF proposed to the executive that pharmacies distribute these masks free of charge to the most vulnerable. The goal: to prevent “The price is a brake for socially fragile people” if wearing becomes compulsory in public places, as recommended by the Scientific Council.
