Yesterday morning reopened public primary schools in the French part, at least three levels, CP, CE1 and CM2. "Everything went very well. Everything was very well organized. There were markings on the ground and hydroalcoholic gel available, ”comments Dominique Boyer, inspector of national education. The teachers welcomed the children, explained the protocol to them, discussed with them the health crisis, the confinement before starting school work.

In order to organize this return to school, the parents were questioned by the national education services on the intention to return their child to school or not. According to the results obtained, 425 children were expected this morning out of the 1 attending school in normal times. "We thought that we would have had more children but in fact we had less", confides Dominique Boyer at midday. In fact, only 498 children were taken in, ie 197% of the planned numbers or 46% of the total number of CP, CE13,5 and CM1.

Certainly some parents were reluctant with the appearance of new cases of covid-19 in part French, and that others preferred to observe the reception conditions. Parents who wish to return their child to school can do so.

For now, the small number of children can accommodate children from Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. including Wednesday.

Canteen service is also provided but there are few registrants, notes Dominique Boyer. However, the president of the COM had indicated that hot meals would be offered (therefore free) for all children until the end of the school year.

Yesterday morning, Daniel Gibbs went to the Marie-Antoinette Richards school in Morne O'Reilly to meet the students and the supervisory staff and to ensure the sanitary organization. He was accompanied by Michel Sanz, vice-rector and Dominique Boyer. “The school has adapted the organization of the establishment and the classrooms, respecting the rules of physical distance. The technical agents of the community proceeded to mark the ground for access to the classes and the refectory, ”declared the president.
