Mosquito hunting is open!

After hurricanes, mosquitoes will multiply. Some of them can increase the risk of an epidemic.

Since Monday, September 25, insecticide sprays have been carried out by the Regional Health Agency (ARS) in the various districts of the island.

Everyone must participate in the fight against mosquitoes:

- Eliminate or spill all waste, containers or unnecessary objects that may retain water;

- Protect your water reserves with mosquito net;

- Clean your gutters and gutters;

- If you have the possibility, empty tanks and swimming pools whose water has been heavily polluted by the passage of hurricanes;

- Plant predatory fish for mosquito larvae in tanks or swimming pools that are no longer in use;

- Professionals, check your workshops or sites.

According to health professionals, after a hurricane or a storm, we find that there are systematically many more mosquitoes, which can effectively transmit viral pathologies. They reproduce and represent a risk of disease, especially for people who are not sheltered.

The risk of malaria exists in some Caribbean countries (this is not the case in Saint-Martin, according to the Pasteur Institute) and we are faced with a risk of spreading the Chikungunya virus, Zika and fever dengue (still according to the Pasteur Institute, the "proven or possible" presence of the first two viruses was observed on Saint-Martin, before Hurricane Irma). _AF

In Saint-Martin as in Saint-Barthélemy, you can collect mosquito net fabrics and predatory fish. For this, contact the ARS at 05.90.44.81.55. Only rapid collective mobilization will reduce the risk of epidemics of mosquito-borne diseases.
