JUSTICE: The court acquitted V. Damaseau and D. Gibbs

Valérie Damaseau and Daniel Gibbs left the courtroom, then the courthouse with tears in their eyes yesterday morning after being acquitted by the court of the acts of favoritism they were accused of.

They had been accused of having signed contracts with companies to carry out post Irma services and works without having respected the code of public procurement, precisely without having put the companies in competition. The trial took place on January 17 and 18 and the judgment was reserved for yesterday.

In general, the court recognized the post-Irma emergency nature which justified the non-competition of companies or “public intervention in order to preserve the safety of the affected citizens”.

Regarding the so-called suppliers' file, the court admitted that the "executive council had continued to obtain supplies from suppliers inherited from the former term of office, who had been paid for years without awarding public contracts, whatever the amounts" and that until then “no one had pointed out that the [complained] practice was illegal and irregular.”

"No one is criminally responsible for his own act", the court acquitted Daniel Gibbs and Valérie Damaseau of all the facts of which they were accused.
