He steals the keys to a luxury SUV. The next day, he goes to see the owner of the vehicle and asks him for 150 euros against their discount. The victim files a complaint and a gendarmerie investigation is opened. The thief, GD aged thirty-four, is heard.

He claims at first that it was his nephew who stole the keys. During his hearing, he also communicates a false first name and a bad year of birth. When the investigators discover his lies, he will say that the errors come from the gendarme who took his statement, that the latter misunderstood what he said. He also threatens him by affirming that "his mother works in the prefecture and that we will not stop there". GD will be confronted with the victim, in which he will admit that it was not his nephew who stole the keys. The investigations will reveal that GD sold the keys to someone else and that this person is asking him for 150 euros to return them to him.

GD was prosecuted for extortion and providing imaginary identity. He was summoned to the Saint-Martin local court at the end of September but did not appear at the hearing. His criminal record includes nine convictions for, in particular, threat of death, extortion, sexual assault, theft.

The deputy prosecutor requested a one-year prison sentence and a committal warrant. After deliberation, the court sentenced GD to one year in prison. (soualigapost.com)
