Justice: Immediate appearance hearings also on Friday

0

A few years ago, a clerk and a magistrate came specially from Basse-Terre to complete the composition of the tribunal of Saint-Martin and thus allow the organization of hearings in Marigot. Today, the court is able to hold a third weekly hearing on its own, without appealing to Basse-Terre thanks to the strengthening of the local staff. It will be held on Fridays as part of the immediate appearance procedure. This procedure allows the prosecution, depending on the nature and complexity of the cases, to request that individuals be tried after their police custody, sometimes only a few days after the commission of the facts.

This procedure has been possible in Saint-Martin since 2012, following a reorganization of the justice system in Guadeloupe and in Saint-Martin, the hearings take place on Wednesday. In 2016, the creation of the Saint-Martin detached room was accompanied by new human support. In fact, a second vice-prosecutor arrived in September 2016 and a fourth magistrate will be installed next September. These new conditions allow a second immediate appearance to be held on Friday. Thus, today, in 2017, in Saint-Martin, whatever the day of his arrest, a person can be tried locally.
