Traveling to French Polynesia last week, the Minister of Overseas, visited the site of Teahupo'o, selected as the host site for the surfing events of the 2024 Olympic Games by the board of directors (CA) of the Organizing Committee for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games (OCOG), on December 12.

Annick Girardin, was thus "able to discover for the very first time the envisaged competition zone and the crystal waves of this mythical site which makes dream of millions of surfers around the world", indicates the ministry in a press release.

Real ultramarine treasure, Tehuapo'o constitutes a unique competition field, located on the territory which saw the birth of the practice of this sport. It was then discovered by Europeans in the XNUMXth century.

The Minister of Overseas France was presented, at the same time, the facilities and infrastructure to be carried out for hosting the competition which will be built in connection with the population, respecting the environment and ensuring leave a lasting legacy for Polynesians after the end of the competition.

Hosting this surfing event represents many challenges for the development of Polynesia in the sports, tourism and economic fields, in particular through the creation of many jobs.

This world event would offer French Polynesia and the overseas territories before, during and after the duration of the events unprecedented notoriety and would greatly contribute to increasing their visibility.

“The 2024 Games could offer France an unequaled opportunity to discover both the cradle of surfing and a breathtaking site. What visibility it would be for this legendary spot! Alongside the Stade de France and the Eiffel Tower, Teahupo'o would become, I am convinced, a symbol for the overseas territories and for France. ”, She declared.

Teahupo'o's candidacy must be validated next March by the International Olympic Committee.
