VIDEO GAME: "The Gold Crab", the first Saint-Martin video game rocked by Creole tales

0

It is to Samy D'Alexis and the concept Manni Mannyòk that we owe this little gem that is “Krab an Lò-la” (The Crab in Gold).

Creole and plastic arts teacher at Mont des Accord college, Samy D'Alexis, originally from Guadeloupe, tried his hand at computer programming during confinement. It took him a whole year to think, create, design and learn to code his own video game. He took on all the roles necessary for the design of such a support, wearing all the caps without counting sleepless nights. Proud of his Creole culture, Samy D'Alexis had to pay tribute to it by placing it at the center of his creation. Le Crabe en Or has therefore become the very first video game made around Creole tales and Guadeloupe culture.

Completely free on Google Play and Google Chrome, this video game entirely in Guadeloupe Creole tells the story of two young people, Manno and Charlot, who set out in search of a mythical golden crab which, according to legend, would appear every year for Easter holidays. The protagonists' research will lead them straight to a multitude of adventures at the heart of West Indian beliefs and imagination. The video game is currently only available in Creole, which makes it a great educational tool now integrated into the 2020-2021 academic project by the rectorate of Guadeloupe, which is extremely popular with the teacher's young students.

The adaptation in French and English versions is also in progress. The particular graphics of Krab an Lò-la will bring back fond memories of video game aficionados of yesteryear. The currently available version is for ages 12 and over. Despite the self-financing of the latter, a pot has been set up online to help the realization of a version for all audiences: https://www.leetchi.com/c/krab-an-lo-la
