Irma: Problems delivering food donations to associations

0

“Since December 20 we have received nothing. People come every day to ask us for food and water but we have to tell them that there is nothing we can do for the moment, apart from giving them the military rations that we have left ”says distraught Nadia Rohan, volunteer at the association Les Explorateurs, in Quartier d'Orléans.

The distribution of donations was organized upon receipt of the donation containers in September as part of State Civil Security-COM logistics which operated until November with weekly points during coordination meetings. From that date, other logistics were put in place, the donations were much smaller and were directed to the poorest families. These families have been listed by the Solidarity and Families Pole (PSF) and COM logistics has been set up for distribution in partnership with associations. In each district a storage association has been designated, from which the other associations come to stock up. The explorers correspond to the storage association for the Quartier d'Orléans-Oyster Pond area. "Since the third week of December, deliveries are no longer made and only associations that have means of locomotion can go to collect donations" advance Graziella Clicheroux, president of Hopester Pond.

"We could not deliver what we did not" defends Sofia Carti, territorial advisor and referent of COM to associations from Irma for the distribution of donations. She explains that the COM had to negotiate with the port on the Dutch side where the containers had hitherto been blocked before ensuring that distribution would soon start again.
