Car registration: which side is it cheaper?

Vehicle owners on both sides of the island must pay a tax on the registration certificate.

In St Maarten, every year they have to pay the Motor Vehicle Tax; they can do so since Tuesday, January 3. This year, the total amount of the tax is unchanged in 2017. It is 287,50 Naf or 159,72 dollars for a private or professional vehicle (registered M or P), it is French side, the system is identical to that of the metropolis. Owners must pay a tax on registration certificates upon acquisition, the amount of which is 36 euros per fiscal horse (CV) and 8 euros if the vehicle is more than ten years old.

If we compare the two systems over a period of four years, that of St Maarten is more expensive on the basis of a registration of a car of six CV; 638 dollars against 216 euros.
