Following the passage of two hurricanes Irma and and Maria, the Emission Institute of the overseas departments (IEDOM) of Guadeloupe, Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthélemy held several emergency meetings with all of the banking and financial players present in the northern islands, the Prefecture of Guadeloupe, the Regional Directorate of Public Finance, the Directorate of Business, Competition, Consumption, Labor and Employment, representatives of businesses and the Brink's money transporter.

IEDOM, a subsidiary of the Banque de France, alongside commercial banks and other financial institutions, is on the one hand guarantor of the robustness of the banking market in Guadeloupe, Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthélemy in the event of a major crisis like the one that hit the two islands hard, on the other hand, ensures a secure and smooth resumption of activity as quickly as possible.

In the days following Irma's passage, the banks and the money transporter had the priority of ensuring the safety of customers and their employees. The resumption of concerted activity between establishments, which were the first businesses to reopen for around half of the agencies and distributors in order to avoid the effects of crowds, was gradual from the week of September 18. Since Monday September 25, a normal supply of banknotes and coins to banks had been assured in the Northern Islands. Concerning Guadeloupe, fiduciary and banking activity resumed normally on the whole island following the passage of Hurricane Maria from Thursday, September 21.

All establishments have already taken emergency measures to respond to the immediate difficulties of individuals and businesses. They have all set up post-Irma customer assistance units which deal with exceptional overdrafts, cash loans, waiver of fees and suspension of loan repayment schedules.

Individual and business customers are invited to contact their banks at the following numbers:
