For many, the year 2022 begins under sad auspices: Stachy, emblematic figure of Saint Martin, passed away at the age of 52.
Who has never heard of "Chez Stachy" or "Stachy's Hut" for English speakers ... a must-see place located on the road to Cul de Sac, this bar restaurant is one of the institutions of Saint Martin, known not only for its frenzied evenings and its good-natured atmosphere but also to provide a feeling of well-being for anyone who stops there. With his real name Eustace Mills, Stachy knew how to create an environment that was both entertaining and comforting, he always had the words to laugh and the phrase to make you smile. Many went there to meet friends, others stopped there by chance, and charmed by the magic of the place and its owner, they returned. Because when we go to “Chez Stachy”, we always go back. Some reggae concerts are still remembered, music brings people together and Stachy knew how to transmit his passion. Since last Tuesday, "Chez Stachy" has lost its sun and the hut of happiness is crying. But Stachy's family, his relatives and regulars follow one another to pay homage to him, to continue to make him exist through their memories and their anecdotes which they exchange in memory of this great man with such a beautiful soul. The emotion is really palpable there. Originally from Dominica, Stachy was known to be a hard worker, counting the hours and always ready to help those in need. He leaves behind six children who invite all those who wish to find them “Chez Stachy” at 69 Rue de Cul de Sac this Saturday from 15 pm to 22:30 pm to pay a last tribute to their father who will certainly continue to make an impression. A fundraiser will be set up during this moment of sharing and contemplation in order to offer Stachy a funeral worthy of him. _VX
