HAITI: A call for donation from the Rotary-Club of Saint-Martin

0

The toll is growing every day in Haiti where a powerful earthquake devastated the country on Saturday August 14. Humanitarian aid is being organized to help the victims find shelter.

After the powerful earthquake of January 2010 and the passage of Matthew, major cyclone of 4rd category, in September 2016, the southwestern peninsula of Haiti, has once again been hit by a double disaster:

- a magnitude 7.2 earthquake on August 14, with the latest provisional toll of more than 1 dead and 300 injured, leaving thousands homeless in the southwest of the country or in search of missing or stranded relatives under the rubble,

- the passage of Storm Grace on August 17.

The Rotary-club of Saint-Martin Nord is therefore launching an appeal for donations for the provision of emergency shelters for the thousands of homeless people in this disaster-stricken region of Haiti. The “Shelterbox” teams are ready to intervene as soon as possible, in coordination with the relief organizations already on the spot and with the assistance of the Rotary clubs of Haiti established in most of the cities of the country, in particular in Port-au -Prince, in Les Cayes and in Aquin, the towns closest to the epicenter.

Each of these “Shelterbox” shelters can accommodate 10 people and is equipped with blankets, kitchen equipment, small equipment, water treatment products, etc. (see attached photos). They are currently available in Florida and can be shipped very quickly to Haiti. The cost of each shelter is $ 1 (or € 000) and a “tracking” system is planned, making it possible to follow the final destination of the containers via the Internet. All donations, even a small amount, are welcome, given the urgency and scale of the disaster. "Unity is strength !"
