The last epidemiological point concerning Covid-19 has just been unveiled by the health authorities. There is only one observation: the virus is inexorably spreading over Guadeloupe territory and continues to claim victims with 16 new deaths to be deplored last week.

According to the latest figures there is a significant increase in cases - the situation is very worrying.

From Monday to Sunday, in one week, the ARS recorded 1059 new cases confirmed by PCR tests.

Sixteen deaths are unfortunately to be deplored. Eight of them were in intensive care, the other eight out of intensive care.

Of those deaths, four were under 65, the youngest being 46. All these people had pathologies such as obesity, diabetes, hypertension as common points.

In addition, around one hundred people are currently hospitalized at the Pointe-à-Pitre University Hospital and at the Basse-Terre Hospital Center, including 24 in intensive care.

The virus reproduction rate (R0) was 1,04 - last week it is now 1,05. "We need to bring this rate down below 1, that is to say that one person infects less than another person to stop the chains of contamination", underlines Dr Valérie Denux, Director General of ARS and "seriously calls on the entire population to protect themselves and others by applying barrier gestures in all circumstances and particularly in the private sphere"._AF
