Gendarmerie: Reinforcement of road checks during the holidays!

While the holidays are fast approaching, the National Gendarmerie calls users to the greatest caution on the roads and insists on the need to respect the rules of the Highway Code. It recalls the determination of the public authorities in the fight against road insecurity.

Road safety checks will be reinforced during this holiday period in order to combat the main causes of accidents, linked to the recklessness and behavioral faults of certain road users, in particular excessive speed, driving under the influence of alcohol or narcotics or the use of the telephone while driving.

Intoxicated

It is forbidden to drive when you have reached or exceeded the level of 0,5 g of alcohol per liter of blood, i.e. 0 mg of alcohol per liter of exhaled air. Before getting behind the wheel, you can measure these rates using a breathalyzer or a breathalyzer.

Between 0,5 and 0,79g

Driving a vehicle with an alcohol level per liter of blood between 0,5 and 0,79 g (i.e. between 0 and 25 mg of alcohol per liter of exhaled air) results in withdrawal 0 points on the driving license and constitutes a 39th class fine (fine of 6 euros).

For drivers with a probationary license, the limit rate of 0,5g has been lowered to 0,2g since the end of June 2015. See the alcohol level authorized for young drivers.

0,8 g and above

When his alcohol level per liter of blood is equal to or greater than 0,80 g (i.e. 0,40 mg per liter of exhaled air), the driver commits the offense of driving under the influence of the alcoholic state and incurs a penalty of 2 years imprisonment and a fine of 4 euros as well as a withdrawal of 500 points from his license.

He is also exposed to additional penalties such as a suspension or cancellation of a permit or the obligation to complete, at his own expense, a road safety awareness training course.

Drugs

During drug tests during a roadside check, driving a vehicle using substances or plants classified as narcotic constitutes an offense punishable by a penalty of 2 years imprisonment and a 4500 euro fine accompanied by a withdrawal of 6 points on the driving license. Can be added additional penalties such as cancellation or suspension of the license or the obligation to perform, at the driver's expense, an awareness course on road safety and / or the dangers associated with the use of products narcotics. _AF
