Meeting with the National Gendarmerie: zoom on the criminal identification cell
Their main mission is the crime scene management, it is indeed a technical and scientific unit of the Gendarmerie. A bit like "The Experts", they intervene in a second time on a crime scene if it is judged suspect by the first responders.
Their job is to analyze clues and try to reconstruct facts as close as possible to reality. “We collect and materialize clues through video or photography. In the case of an arrest followed by a criminal trial, this allows jurors and magistrates to realize the state of the crime scene with which we were confronted. " says Chief Warrant Officer Cuelo.
Their task also consists in taking samples which will be analyzed by civil or private laboratories. They can also be contacted by investigators for research and analysis of fingerprints by physical and chemical means. These fingerprints will then be compared to the national file.
A hundred of these Gendarmerie units exist in France and overseas.
